The renovation project included the reconfiguration of the existing
first floor for upgraded classrooms, seminar room, computer lab, and academic and administrative
offices of the History Department. As the initial interior component of a multi-phase upgrade to
Salem State College's 1895 foundation building, the project features an interpretive cartographic
floor design inspired by Salem's 19th century trading heritage and also the College's well-known
Geography Department.
